Toy Boxes

Toy boxes can also be dangerous, injuries and deaths have been recorded in Australia and other countries.

Children below 3 years old are most at risk. These children can exert enough strength to lift the lid that might fall easily onto the back of their head or neck.

Consider the following factors before you buy:

  • Buy toy boxes without lids - plastic crates are safer.
  • The lid should be light weight and removable.
  • If a toy box has a lock, make sure it is easy for your child to open from inside.
  • Make sure the toy box has ventilation holes to stop suffocation.
  • Check if the toy box is fitted with rubber or other stoppers.

Do not allow your child to open the toy boxes without your supervision.

Remove the lid of the toy box if it is heavy to avoid accidents
