Ride On Toys

Recommended age group: Any age.

There are various ride-on toys that are suitable for kids at any age. Toys such as tricycles, pedal cars and sit-on toys are suitable for kids aged 2 to 4.

For older children, an appropriate helmet should be worn when riding a bicycle.

Stability

It is important for a ride on toy to be stable. It should not tip in any direction on a moderate slope when the child is sitting on.
Pedal operated toys
The rods connecting the pedals to the driving wheels should be firmly attached to all joints. The joints should not be disconnected. Your child's feet might be trapped under any part of the toy when it is moving.

Brakes

Toy bicycles should have proper brakes, preferably foot operated and should be easy to operate.

Steering wheels

Column mounted steering wheels should not be easily removed to expose a shaft that could spear the rider. The steering wheel should be strong enough to avoid any accidents.

Wheels and wheel rims

Plastic and wooden wheels and wheel rims should be strong enough not to collapse or disintegrate under normal riding conditions.
They should be able to withstand unexpected bumps or hitting large stones.

Seats

Seats should be made from a material that is not likely to split, crack or shatter. All seats and surfaces, including underneath the seat should be smooth.

Handle bars

The sharf that supports the handle bars should be strong enough to resist the impact if accident may happen. If the handle bars are adjustable, the supporting stem should be inserted to the length marked on the shaft.

Support between back and front wheels

The support between the front and back wheels should not bend or break.

Rocking horses

The rockers should be long enough so that the rocking horse is not likely to tip forwards or backwards under vigorous use.
The saddles should be firmly fixed to nthe horse. They should not be nailed in place because nails are dangerous sharp point.
Stirrups should be attached properly to the saddle.

Toy Pedal Cycles

Also known as 'pavement' pedal cycles, these toys are not designed for use on the road. Most of these toys comes with training wheels.
A hand brake or back pedal brake should be fitted to stop the bicycle to go down. It is important for the children to understand the correct use of these brakes.
