Children's Furniture
Recommended age group: All ages, depending on furniture type.
Look for the same quality as you would when buying furniture for
yourself. Find the same quality as you would when buying furniture for
yourself.
Folding furniture
Children's folding furniture should be fitted with locking devices
that close securely when in use so that it will not cause accident. It
is recommended that such furniture have at least 5mm space between
moving parts to avoid pinching and cutting skin.
Wooden or metal furniture
They must have strong joints and free of splinters. Metal furniture
should have strong rivets or welds that are not rough or sharp.
Hanging furniture
Chains used to support hanging toys, seats and swings that weigh more
than 10kg, should be covered so that the chain is contained in a sheath
or the distance between links should be less than 5mm to prevent fingers
being caught.
Plastic furniture
Look for ribs and bracing moulded into the product for strength. Avoid
injection-moulded chairs with unmelted beads of plastic showing through
when held to the light. Make sure plastic legs do not splay too much and
break under weight, particularly when used on smooth shiny floor
surfaces. Tubular plastic components should feel strong and be able to
take the weight required.
Do not allow children to stand on chairs or rock back on rear legs in
case they break under the concentrated weight (this also applies to
wooden and metal furniture).
