Building your own toys

Building a toy with your child can be fun. However, it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of the toy. Your home-made toy should be safer than the product you can buy.

Two of the most important factor to consider in choosing the materials to create a toy are:

  1. Non-toxicity - Toy finishes such as glue, paint and lacquer should be non-toxic. Check the labelling concerning toxicity.
  2. Non-flammability - For some toys like dolls particulary on clothing, hair and other loose toy parts, make sure that these materials can not catch fire easily.
